Get wet. outer plumage will get wet but inner feathers coated with layer of oil so still dry. When it pours the parent bird will still continue with their daily chores of bringing food. The chicks may be exposed to the elements and need to fend for themselves. Since these feathers live by the survival code of conduct, the strongest and meanest will win and get to enjoy the pleasure of next generation rearing. The parent birds may also be seen to take shelter under foliage in heavy downpour but rarely do they abandon their nests unless facing imminent danger like the pole falling off.
