This is a lovely picture, and this is something that an artist would consider making into a painting. I don't know very much about bird-life, however. Perhaps observation is the best teacher.
indeed, there are commonality between this image and traditional chinese painting. recall i got an email from an artist to paint my photos.
& yes, these feathers taught me a lot of stuff. one doesn't need to know about bird life, just need to enjoy their presence. that is the joy of creating images.
this image is dedicated to the poet whom i met from India. i might just be making the trip to Rajasthan towards end of yr.
